MP
I served my local MP at work tonight. His name’s Chris White, he’s Conservative.
He seemed in a good mood. Handing over the DVD he’d chosen, he asked, ‘Have you seen it? Is it any good?’
I’d watched this particular movie when it came out. It was enjoyable, but didn’t really have any depth in the characters or plot. That wasn’t necessarily a bad thing though, it just made it very easy to watch.
‘Yeah it’s alright!’ I said. I grabbed the DVD. ‘Nothing too taxing.’
Taxing. Taxing.
I had not meant it like that. I am not very politically minded at all. I don’t really know anything about Conservative tax policy, I just know that it’s rather unpopular.
His mood suddenly seemed to drop. He became stand-offish when handing over payment. I’m not a confrontational type, but I thought I’d just accidentally confronted and annoyed my local MP!
‘Back tomorrow before 9,’ I said timidly.
He looked at me with a cautious squint which turned into a wry smile.
‘I always trust your judgement,’ he said, and left the store. I think he meant about films.
